History of MAN Truck & Bus Truck Group

The origins of MAN trucks date back to the 18th century. The company’s roots were established in 1758 with iron and steel production facilities in Germany. Its modern structure was formed in 1898 through the merger of Maschinenfabrik Augsburg and engineering plants in Nuremberg.

A major milestone came in 1908 when MAN adopted the diesel engine technology developed by Rudolf Diesel. This innovation played a crucial role in the company’s development in the commercial vehicle sector. In 1915, MAN produced its first truck, quickly gaining recognition in Europe for its durability and engineering excellence.

After World War II, MAN restructured and expanded rapidly during the 1950s and 1960s, strengthening its position in the heavy commercial vehicle segment. From the 1980s onward, the company expanded into international markets, becoming a global player in both truck and bus manufacturing.

Today, MAN operates under the umbrella of the Volkswagen Group and continues to be a key player in the heavy-duty vehicle industry, focusing on fuel efficiency, environmentally friendly technologies, and digital transport solutions.
